TSOs work with people every day. This includes providing uniformed and undercover services in a calm, respectful, and trauma-informed manner. TSOs work with a diverse range of people and must approach their work with a focus on equity and cultural sensitivity. TSOs must demonstrate strong communication skills, ethical conduct, and professionalism. TSOs will work closely with the support of the Transit Police Unit, the Social Worker Program, and customer service positions.

Transit Security Officers come from various backgrounds and job experiences, including:
- law enforcement
- military service
- hospital security
- prison security
- retail security
- social work and counseling
- customer service
Minimum qualifications include:
- High school diploma or GED certificate.
- Two years of experience in security or law enforcement-related work, including military experience.
- A valid Washington State driver’s license.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Valid First Aid/CPR/AED certification or the ability to obtain this certification within 30 days of hire.
- Pass a comprehensive background check.
