DSHS WSH Security Guard 1
Western State Hospital is seeking security professionals who can quickly adapt to their environment, proactively manage situations, and be effective team members.
There are two open positions, both swing shifts from 2:45pm to 11:15pm, with one offering Mondays and Tuesdays off, and the other Thursdays and Fridays off.
Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs. Evening and Night shifts include a shift differential in addition to the standard compensation rate. Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.
Some of what you'll do:
- Assist management in enforcing hospital rules, regulations, policies, and statutory laws
- Contact 911 and coordinate fire, law enforcement, or ambulance response if needed
- After critical incidents, coordinate extensive checklists for response activity
- Complete documentation daily to ensure events are recorded accurately
- Receive and respond to communication from staff, patients, contractors, and visitors by radio, telephone, and in-person
- Work closely with the Emergency Management Director and Chief Safety and Security Officer for quality control and applicability of policies and response procedures for normal and emergency operations
- Record, evaluate, and disseminate reports of incidents or events
- Notify designated personnel to assist walk-in patients
- Conduct the check-in process and coordinate escorts for visitors and interpreters
- Notifies executive staff and Hospital Incident Command Staff of emergent incidents, safety issues, or events that affect the continuity of business at the hospital
- Operate electronic doors to ensure all staff, patients, and visitors have appropriate identification before allowing access
- Assist in ensuring the safety of various hospital personnel is maintained
What we're looking for:
- Excellent organization skills
- Communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to use a PC for multiple programs, typing, entering data, and submitting reports
- Operate various emergency communications devices and office equipment effectively
- Ability to follow and enforce policies, procedures, and emergency protocols
- Able to effectively communicate with staff and patients both orally and in writing
Professionals with one of the following should apply:
- High school diploma or GED and one year of experience in areas of work such as security guard, correctional officer, store investigations, police officer, police reserve officer, military police, or other law enforcement work
OR
- A certificate of completion in a basic law enforcement training program approved by the Washington Criminal Justice Training Commission
OR
- A certificate of completion in a police or reserve police academy or military training program
